Thanks to the internet there are a number of jobs that simply didn’t exist fifteen years ago. A perfect example is that of a social media manager. Social media has become an important part of people’s lives including for business.
There is no marketing strategy these days that doesn’t involve social media marketing. Because of this, it is one of those careers that is not going away anytime soon. If you are looking for a job that is interesting and always different then taking some marketing courses to learn how is a really good idea.
In this article, we will give you some ideas on what it is like so you can decide for yourself if this type of job would be a good fit.
1 – You become the brand
No matter who you end up working for, you will be the face of the brand.
Even if you work for an individual, it’s important to remember that what you are doing is creating a cohesive brand for whoever it is.
Understanding what the brand is about will allow you to make a strategic plan to get the word out over social media.
This also means that you will have to craft content that not only the public will respond to but will also best represent the brand and the mission.
It’s very important to match the tone of the content with the realities of what the brand represents.
You have to be very tuned in to what the language is like as well as the imagery. It isn’t as simple as posting a few times a day and letting it do its thing.
2 – You’ll need to be analytical
One of the hardest things about social media marketing is knowing if it is working.
As a brand builds, things can happen somewhat naturally so a social media manager has to know how to identify the things that are happening that have a direct effect on the bottom line.
There will be a lot of data available but the trick is to understand the data.
It takes a keen analytical eye to make sense of the numbers to be able to tell a client that things are going well.
3 – Be flexible
Social media is very fickle as the algorithm of each platform works differently.
You’ll have to not only understand how each of them works and craft a strategy for each, but you also have to be ready to adapt at a moment’s notice.
This is because the algorithms change all the time.
There are times when a social media platform changes how the algorithm works to make improvements so that it is a better experience for the user.
Other times, the scope of the platform changes so the algorithm has to reflect the new direction.
Whatever the reason for the changes, you will be responsible for figuring out how to adapt to the changes and make things work.
